MARCH - APRIL 2019AUTOTECHOUTLOOK.COM6The auto industry has seen non-stop evolution over the decades and has often been considered the dodgiest to predict. This is primarily owing to the developments that are moving by leaps and bounds. However, technology is not the only factor that is taking a lead on the automotive industry--political and social developments are also seen to play a pivotal role in the future for the industry. Of all the possible outcomes of the years ahead, one factor has always been looked forward to by every automotive manufacturer--driverless cars. In the present scenario, industry geniuses like Elon Musk have gone the distance to create waves in the driverless front. With the concept of self-driving cars constantly on the news, the near complete technology is still facing one too many hurdles in its path. For starters, the infrastructure of the cities will need a complete overhaul, following which, newer laws need to be formulated to support the driverless trend. This hints that it could be a significant time before the roads can be filled with people in cars without drivers. While the concept of driverless cars has been under constant evolution over the years, electric cars will be one concept that has never stopped evolving. With more people switching from petrol and diesel to hybrid or fully electric cars, it is more than just the money on the table--the concern is about the social responsibility front too. With the proposed ban of petrol and diesel by 2040 in the UK, the electric car based R&D has been expedited with similar possible bans across the world. Although it is particularly hard to track the evolution of cars to increase the sales and give back to the environment, the recent decline in new car sales has left the manufacturers with worries. This has several factors ranging from increased fuel rates to possible ban on fossil fuels. With driverless and electric cars running at a fast pace in the research and development front, what is in store for the automotive industry is anybody's guess. Against this backdrop, several solution providers are working towards being a part of this big race. In this new era of innovative technologies, we highlight the automotive solution providers who are at the vanguard of accelerating the digital transformation of the industry.Let us know your thoughts!EDITORIALStepping into an Era of Fuel- and Driver-Independent CarsCopyright © 2019 ValleyMedia, Inc.
